About Us:

Maybe you buy art simply to decorate. Most of us do. We have a blank wall and want something fabulous, so we go looking for a great piece of art.

But, have you ever considered collecting art? Take a look around at the art on your walls to see if there’s a common thread or theme that emerges. Do you have a number of florals? More than one landscape? Or, maybe you have a budding art collection of pieces purchased on trips you’ve taken.</p>

Of course, when we talk about paintings, we’re talking about real art. Art that’s created by actual, living artists. Not art you’d buy in a department store. So, if you have that kind of art – real art – you can stop thinking of it as a bunch of paintings, and turn it into a budding art collection.

Here’s a wonderful example of real art that’s collectible and affordable. This fine art photo could be the beginning of a wonderful Americana art collection. There are literally thousands of artists who artfully document everything American, including this example of a vintage sign advertising the last privately owned bar in Fort Lee, New Jersey. The artwork titled The Last One is a 20″ x 24″ print available for $125 from fine art photographer Nick D’Andrea. http://www.discoveredartists.com/.

A collection of vintage, neon bar signs or advertising symbols from the 1950’s could create an interesting, decorative art wall while at the same time become an enjoyable pursuit as you hunt for more Americana artwork.

But, the subject area for art collection themes is wide open. For example if you absolutely love cityscapes and have photos of skylines and skyscrapers, before you know it you’re an Architectural Art Collector. Or, if you have a couple of floral or animal prints, and begin collecting similar pieces, you can build a collection of botannicals or nature artworks

Believe it or not, chickens and cows are very big with collectors. These are creatures that artists particularly like to paint, often because of the challenge of turning fur and feathers into interesting, lifelike figures with personality. Rooster 25 is a perfect example of an artist who took on and met the challenge. This fierce looking bird already has his feathers ruffled, ready to strike without provocation. The painting is an original 12″ x 12″ oil on canvas by artist Ilse Kleyn and sells for $100 in the artist’s DiscoveredArtists.com gallery. http://www.discoveredartists.com/

So, all you really need to do to become an art collector is to put some thought into your art buying. Before you know it, instead of just buying art, you’ll be collecting art. Decide on a theme based on art that appeals to you. Perhaps you love raku vases, or glass art. Or, maybe you’re attracted to bronze figurines. If you’re into wall art then cityscapes and watercolors from a particular country could become a theme for your collection.

Cityscape at Dusk is a wonderfully warm, inviting photo that captures a moment in time at the intersection of North, Damen and Milwaukee Avenues in Chicago’s Bucktown neighborhood. Collecting photos and original art that takes you back to places you’ve visited or neighborhoods where you once lived adds meaning to the art that you use to decorate your home or office. This fine art photo by photographer Kurt Kramer can be purchased for $90 in his online gallery at DiscoveredArtists.com and is just one in a series of collectible, big city neighborhood cityscapes.

So, as you can see, there’s no end and no limit to the types of themes for collecting art. In fact, many collectors just buy what they like and create collections comprised of favorite artworks. These are collections that bring the owner years of pleasure and great satisfaction.

In fact, when compared to using art simply to decorate or to impress someone, collecting art gives you an even greater payoff. The process of collecting art is a life enriching hobby that beautifully mirrors who you are and shows the world what you love. It can return a lifetime of satisfaction and value.

Where to Find Real Art At Reasonable Prices:

At www.DiscoveredArtists.com you can search over 4000 pieces of original and limited edition art created by international, independent Artists. Search by style, color, price, shape, size, and theme. Read artist biographies and search for artists by career experience, credentials, juried status and more.

Prices are set by the artist, not by the gallery so you avoid paying gallery markups. Purchase art using a major credit card using a secure shopping cart. All purchases are backed by a 100% satisfaction guarantee including return shipping.

Art collection can be a favourable hobby, past-time, or even investment. If you are new to this kind of activity, you can be overwhelmed with the vast number of approaches that you can choose from. So, to make things easier for you, here are some of the best tips you can get in regards to collecting art.

Buy Because Of What?

First off, you should understand that you should buy an artwork because you like it. Yes, it’s just that simple. Although it may be common sense, a lot of people still overlook this important idea. Some buy pieces because other people told them so, or because they saw others buying something similar. If you find a piece that moves you, and you think can enhance your life, then buy it! You do not have to wait for the approval of others to do so since the whole decision is yours.

What use is the beauty of an artwork that you bought, if personally, you don’t appreciate it or find it disgusting, even? Remember, in collecting art, there is nothing more self-gratifying than seeing a piece that communicates with you and moves your soul, most especially if it’s a piece that remains fresh and exciting for you even though you’ve seen it for hundreds of times.

Go Gallery Hopping!

Another good thing to do when you’re starting a collection is to go gallery hopping. Try to go to as many art galleries that you can visit. Galleries’ staff guides can be helpful to you and can add up to your art education. Going to galleries can also be one good way of being exposed to different kinds of art, whether it is a gallery on paintings, sculptures or prints.

Galleries provide you with the real thing. Thus, you can examine more of the details of different works of art. Most of the time, galleries showcase some prestigious collections too. Viewing such, can yet be another way of seeing the collections of other people and generating ideas for your own collection.

Get Connected

Most galleries also have a mailing list that regularly update you on their latest happenings and events. Being connected and up to date with what’s happening is another way to help you start with your collection. Sometimes, if there are openings or special events that these galleries hold, they can invite you to go.

Once you are invited, try your best to attend such events so that you can be more exposed to the industry. Additionally, events like these can bring you opportunity to know more people within the industry, and find more good deals around.

Go Local

If there are not much of art galleries in your place, then you can still go local! Try visiting and joining local art museums or non-profit art centers. You may be surprised to see how local talents in your area create masterpieces that seem priceless, yet you can buy at a cheap price. Since probably most of them are still budding artists, then you’ll probably spot some good deals around in which the beauty of the piece remains unaltered.

Also, the curators of such places sometimes provide lectures for those who are interested in collecting art. Some lectures may have a very cheap fee, while some can come for free, especially if there are big companies sponsoring the event.

It’s one of the finest collections of modern art anywhere in the world, but you won’t find it in New York or Paris. Dozens of works by the likes of Pablo Picasso, Andy Warhol and Jackson Pollock — together valued at roughly $3 billion — are locked in a basement in Tehran. Only a handful of westerners have had an up-close look at the underground archives in Tehran’s Museum of Contemporary Art.
Art Investment Guide

Second only in size to the US market, The UK art and antiques market is worth well over £4 billion a year, and holds a global share of some 26% of the world’s total art sales. In terms of volume, the UK is the largest marketplace for art on the planet.(1). In 2005, the index covering sales of old masters showed growth of 18.8%, while the similar index covering post-war and contemporary art rose 8.3%. Over the past five years, the average annual returns were 3.1% and 17.7% respectively.(2). That’s a better return than investing in stocks and shares.

Buying art can represent a fantastic long-term investment opportunity. In order to help you make an informed decision on the art you buy through The Art Ministry website, we have put together some key considerations to bear in mind when selecting work from our galleries. With over 25 years’ experience in the art market, our team have followed the same steps to ensure all work available in our Online Store is fairly valued.

1. Buy what you like

It’s important to trust your own taste when buying art. Our aim in providing this collection is to offer artwork for every budget that adds interest to your home or office, a talking point that enriches your environment and lifestyle. Great art needn’t be expensive, and buying artwork should primarily be an expression of your own personality. Like stocks and shares, the value of artwork can go up or down, so it’s crucial you buy what you like and can afford. Ultimately the true value of art is in the pleasure or feelings it evokes. The more people that find it appealing the more demand increases, which inevitably increases the value.

2. Do your homework and understand the value of the work

When you view a piece of artwork to buy, pay attention to detail. If you look into the way it has been physically created, how much time it took and the journey the artist went through in producing the piece, you will come to appreciate the skill of the artist and the effort involved in making the work. When it comes to value, don’t be taken in by the medium either. For example, oil paintings are in general more expensive than watercolours, but the latter can require more skill to achieve the desired impression.

The more artwork you look at and the more background information you obtain on various artists and how they work, the more you will learn what you like and why. Comparing the merits of a work with other artist’s work will help you determine the inherent value in any given piece and assist your buying decision. If you want to know what similar work has sold for, use a source like The Art Sales Index, which has catalogued art prices since the 1950’s, or the Mei/Moses Fine Art Index, which tracks various auction price indexes and compares them to the stock exchange to gauge relative performance.

The comparative merits include:

The artist’s exhibition history

The nationality of the artist

What country the artist works in

The medium the artist uses

The size and dimensions of the piece

The price their work has sold for in the past

3. Buy from a reputable dealer

Only buy artwork from a reputable dealer. The best ones will provide extensive background information on the artists in their portfolio, giving details on how they work and what inspires them. Knowing the artist’s passion might also help you find a work that is right for you. Click here to read ‘About the Artists’ at The Art Ministry.

Reputable dealers will also provide a ‘Certificate of Authenticity’ with all original and limited edition artwork sold. This will be signed by the artist and proves the work is 100% genuine and has been accurately valued. These also include the following information:

The title and visual description of the artwork

Edition numbers and collection details

Materials and techniques used

Size and dimensions of the work

The copyright holder

Distributor details

Release date of the artwork

Printer’s details if relevant

Comments from the artist

Notes on caring for the artwork
